De multidisciplinaire projecten van Erki De Vries & Pieter Huybrechts spelen zich af op het raakvlak tussen fotografie, beeldende kunst en architectuur. In verschillende episodes uit een meerjarig traject willen ze aftasten hoe we de ruimte rondom ons kunnen ervaren en vormgeven.
Hun projecten vertrekken vanuit een onderzoek en ontleding van de plek waar de installatie of voorstelling wordt opgebouwd. Door middel van fotografie worden bepaalde elementen uit de omgeving geïsoleerd en als basis gebruikt voor de creatie van nieuwe ruimtes. Deze grijpen in op de bestaande omgeving door middel van projectie en uitgepuurde architecturale schaalelementen. In dit weefsel van verschillende werkelijkheidsniveaus worden beelden van de exporuimte, de bredere omgeving, en vorige locaties van het project ondergebracht. Zo ontstaat geleidelijk een meerduidige nieuwe werkelijkheid, die door haar ambiguïteit een voortdurende zelfreflectie genereert.
Fotografie, scenografie en architectuur, installatie en realiteit worden op zo'n manier met mekaar verknoopt dat er voor de toeschouwer een fascinerende én verwarrende ervaring ontstaat.
Pieter Huybrechts

Leeft en werkt in Antwerpen, België
Pieter Huybrechts studeerde af aan het KASK Antwerpen. Zijn fotografische praktijk wordt gekenmerkt door een seriële benadering van het beeld en een fascinatie voor textuur en patronen. Zijn beelden gaan over een onderzoek naar beeldtaal, focussen op het af te beelden subject dat wordt gevormd door de wijze van weergeven, zijn tevens een reflectie op het medium fotografie. De werken worden in installaties getoond, zodat de beelden mede de ruimte vormen.
Erki De Vries

Erki De Vries studeerde aan de Karel de Grote-Hogeschool in Antwerpen, volgde een postgraduaat beeldende kunsten in Breda en startte in 2004 aan het Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerpen. In zijn installaties en videowerk onderzoekt De Vries steevast de –mentale- inwerking van de ruimte op de toeschouwer, door te experimenteren met materie, licht en geluid. De ruimte krijgt een actieve invloed.
The multidisciplinary projects by Erki De Vries and Pieter Huybrechts take place at the interface of photography, art and architecture. In several episodes of a multi-year project they want to explore how we experience and shape the space around us.
Their projects start from a research and analysis of the place where the installation or performance is constructed. By means of photography certain elements of the environment are isolated and used as a basis for the creation of new spaces. These intervene in the existing environment through projection and refined architectural elements made to scale. In this web of different levels of reality images of the exhibition space, the wider environment, and previous locations of the project are accommodated. In this way gradually an ambiguous new reality is created, which because of its ambiguity generates a constant self-reflection.
Photography, set design and architecture, installation and reality are entangled in such a way that a fascinating and confusing experience is created for the viewer.
Pieter Huybrechts
_Born 1977, Loenhout, Belgium
Lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium
Pieter Huybrechts graduated from KASK Antwerp. His photographic practice is characterized by a serial approach toward the image and a fascination for texture and patterns. His images are a research about visual language, focused on the subjects that is presented, that is formed by the manner of representation, are as well a reflection on the medium photography. The works are presented in installations, so the images reforms the space.
Erki De Vries
_Born 1978, Vilvoorde, Belgium
Lives and work in Deurne, Belgium
Erki De Vries studied at the Karel de Grote College in Antwerp, followed a postgraduate in visual arts in Breda and started in 2004 at the Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Antwerp. In his installations and video works De Vries invariably investigates the mental impact of the space on the viewer, by experimenting with matter, light and sound. Space becomes an active influencer.
