De sculpturen en ruimtelijke installaties van Casaer zijn het resultaat van een intuïtieve, maar gedecideerde werkwijze, waarbij individueel geselecteerde fragmenten en objecten op strikt non hiërarchische wijze worden samengebracht. Ze vormen de neerslag van zijn indrukken van de tastbare werkelijkheid rondom hem. De kunstenaar kiest voor herkenbare, gewone voorwerpen en zet ze in als elementen van een groter geheel. Bij de keuze van de objecten wordt voorbijgegaan aan hun representatieve karakter. De voorkeur gaat uit naar vormen die een symbolische resonantie hebben: pauwenveren, beeld- en informatiedragers, mallen en touwen, bellen, draagstructuren, barrières enz. Het zijn elementen die een verbeeldingswereld evoceren die de intrinsieke waarde van het object overstijgen. Door die elementen in een bredere artistieke context in te schrijven, ontstaat een complex spel, waarbij de bestaande betekenis wordt geneutraliseerd ten bate van de vorming van een nieuwe. Het is net deze manier van samenbrengen die de kern vormt van Casaers artistieke werkzaamheid: de conceptuele uitgangspunten en het artistieke maakproces vormen een eenheid, ze zijn aan elkaar vastgegroeid.

Casaer’s sculptures and spatial installations are the result of anintuitive yet resolute practice, in which individually selected fragments and objects are brought together in a strictly non-hierarchical manner. They are the reflection of his impressions of the tangible reality around him. The artist opts for recognisable, ordinary objects, using them as elements of a larger whole. When choosing the objects, their representative character is ignored. Preference is given to forms with symbolic resonance: peacock feathers, image and information mediums, moulds and ropes, bells, support structures, barriers, etc. These are elements that conjure up imaginative realms beyond the intrinsic value of the object. By placing the elements in a broader artistic context, a complex game is created in which the existing meaning is neutralised in place of a new one. It is this very way of bringing things together that makes up the core of Casaer’s artistic practice: the conceptual starting points and the artistic production process form a unity; they have grown together.
