Philip Aguirre studeerde Beeldhouwkunst aan de Koninklijke Academie te Antwerpen, maar is thuis is verschillende disciplines. Zijn sculpturen, tekeningen, assemblages en collages hebben steeds een uitgesproken geëngageerd en humanistisch karakter: veelvoorkomende thema’s zijn onder andere watersnood en -overlast, immigratie en vluchtelingen. Zijn werk werd getoond op verschillende biënnales en hij is sterk beïnvloed door de vele buitenlandse residenties en werkmomenten in onder meer Buenos Aires (Argentinië), Parijs (Frankrijk), Quito (Ecuador), Rabat (Marokko), Dakar (Senegal), Douala (Kameroen) en Sintra (Portugal).
Engagement en poëzie gaan hand in hand in zijn oeuvre. Vertrekkend van uiteenlopende inspiratiebronnen start hij soms vanuit een maatschappelijk en politiek verhaal, op andere momenten laat hij zich leiden door een 'écriture automatique'. Hij begint met een vorm en bouwt daar stelselmatig op voort. In zijn beeldhouwwerken maakt hij gebruik van materialen als brons, terracotta, hout, klei of gips.
Aguirres werk is vertegenwoordigd in Vlaamse musea voor hedendaagse kunst en op openbare plaatsen, zowel in België als in Afrika. Verschillende musea in binnen- en buitenland tonen zijn werk.

Philip Aguirre studied Sculpture at the Royal Academy in Antwerp, but works in several disciplines. His sculptures, drawings, assemblages and collages always have a distinctly engaged and humanistic character: common themes include flooding and flooding, immigration and refugees. His work has been shown at several biennials and he has been strongly influenced by the many foreign residencies and working moments in places such as Buenos Aires (Argentina), Paris (France), Quito (Ecuador), Rabat (Morocco), Dakar (Senegal), Douala (Cameroon) and Sintra (Portugal).
Engagement and poetry go hand in hand throughout his oeuvre. Departing from diverse sources of inspiration, he sometimes starts from a social and political narrative, at other times he allows himself to be led by an 'écriture automatique'. He starts with a form and systematically builds on it. In his sculptures, he uses materials such as bronze, terracotta, wood, clay or plaster.
Aguirre's work is represented in Flemish museums of contemporary art and in public places, both in Belgium and in Africa. Several museums in Belgium and abroad exhibit his work.
