_Founded in 2014, by Linde Freya Tangelder

Antwerp and Brussels based.

Within the works of Destroyers/Builders an interaction between the furniture pieces exists in an overarching inspiration; found in architectural elements, materials or building techniques. Linde Freya Tangelder, founder of the studio, strives for sensory relevance and cultural value in detail and larger scale. The works have a sculptural and architectural character, and balance between contemporary and traditional elements.

Inspired by architectural shapes, the furniture pieces highlight the field between industry and human, through diverse materials. Constructions are scaled down to human sizes, and translations result into sculptural gestures. Both low and high end materials get revalued, reconsidered and transformed. The interventions and finishes by hand, give these architectural objects a tactile aspect. The contrast in materials, the touchability, and the human traces that are still visible in the object, explain the method of Destroyers/Builders.

_Destroyers/Builders for valerie_objects

A minimalist play of color, shape and texture, that’s the result of our collaboration with the young conceptual designer linde freya tangelder (nl) a.k.a. destroyers/builders. linde freya deconstructed the small and seemingly banal elements of architecture and translated them into simple and pure design objects that spark the interior. she morphed the shape of a simple curved tube into six beautiful table and wall objects such as a small shelf, a bookend and a tiny mirror. the objects are made of brick, porcelain and steel: a mixture of high-end and low-end materials with natural textures. ‘i zoom in on the elements that most architects try to keep out of sight’, linde freya says. while questioning the border between art and functionality, we believe that these objects have the power to become the new little altars of the contemporary home.

for the 14th time in a row, the biennale interieur and the magazines knack weekend and le vif weekend have chosen a belgian designer of the year. valerie_objects is particularly proud that for 2019 the choice fell on linde freya tangelder of destroyers / builders.
