Peter Morrens hanteert uiteenlopende beeldtalen: hij tekent en schrijft onder verschillende namen, maakt objecten en kunstenaarspublicaties, schildert en ontwerpt architecturale installaties. Al deze aspecten van zijn oeuvre brengt hij samen in totaalinstallaties waarmee hij ook een nieuwe lading aan zijn werk geeft. Zijn artistieke productie zou je dan ook het best kunnen omschrijven als ‘explosief’.
De centrale rol die Peter Morrens in zijn veelvormig, steeds veranderend oeuvre inneemt, is die van stoorzender. Door een onophoudelijk kijken naar de wereld stelt hij, met de nodige dosis verwarrende humor, alles rondom zich in vraag: ons dagelijks taalgebruik en sociaal gedrag, onze existentiële twijfels, de algemene conventies in de kunstwereld en politieke stellingen worden kritisch belicht. Ook zijn eigen creaties en biografische anekdotes spaart hij hierbij niet.
Peter Morrens werkt aan een veelzijdig oeuvre, bestaande uit tekeningen, foto's, installaties en performances, waarmee hij vorm geeft aan zijn fascinaties voor sensualiteit, tijdsbeleving, seksualiteit, vernietiging, fetisjisme, onrust, ritme, omkering en overtreding. Zijn praktijk wordt gedreven door intuïtie: op een speelse, indringende manier vindt, selecteert en bewerkt hij beelden. De perceptie zelf, maar ook de precieze positie van de kijker staan centraal in Morrens’ werk. Hij herneemt heel vaak oudere werken om bewust de chronologie van zijn oeuvre te doorbreken.
Peter Morrens is een kunstenaar die probeert verbindingen te maken, die je meeneemt in een wereld die bij wijlen absurd is, die de status van het kunstwerk in vraag stelt en gekenmerkt is door een labyrintische openheid, door een generositeit die de hand reikt naar andere makers.
In de hoedanigheid van verschillende personae – Peter Morrens, PM, Herman Smit, Point Blank Press – werkt de kunstenaar op uiteenlopende wijze aan verschillende series tekeningen, objecten en installaties. Zo is er altijd een gespannen, associatieve verbinding tussen de delen en het geheel, die – tijdelijk – een relatie aangaan met de ruimte en/of context.
Peter wordt vertegenwoordigd door de Gentse galerie Kristof De Clercq en betrokken als docent tekenen/grafiek aan LUCA Gent. Hij geeft lezingen, performances en produceert een veelheid aan series en edities onder evenzoveel heteroniemen. Tot 2016 runde hij samen met kunstenaar Rik De Boe de tentoonstellingsruimte Voorkamer in Lier.

Peter Morrens uses various visual languages: he draws and writes under different names, makes objects and artist publications, paints and designs architectural installations. He brings all these aspects of his oeuvre together in total installations, with which he also gives a new meaning to his work. His artistic production could therefore best be described as 'explosive'.
The central role that Peter Morrens occupies in his multiform, ever-changing oeuvre is that of jammer. By constantly looking at the world, he questions everything around him, with the necessary dose of confusing humor: our daily use of language and social behaviour, our existential doubts, the general conventions in the art world and political positions are critically examined. He also does not spare his own creations and biographical anecdotes.
Peter Morrens works on a multifaceted oeuvre, consisting of drawings, photos, installations and performances, with which he gives shape to his fascinations for sensuality, perception of time, sexuality, destruction, fetishism, restlessness, rhythm, inversion and transgression. His practice is driven by intuition: he finds, selects and edits images in a playful, penetrating way. The perception itself, but also the precise position of the viewer are central to Morrens' work. He very often takes up older works in order to consciously break through the chronology of his oeuvre.
Peter Morrens is an artist who tries to make connections, who takes you into a world that is at times absurd, that questions the status of the artwork and is characterized by a labyrinthine openness, by a generosity that reaches out to other creators .
In the capacity of various personae – Peter Morrens, PM, Herman Smit, Point Blank Press – the artist works in various ways on various series of drawings, objects and installations. There is always a tense, associative connection between the parts and the whole, which – temporarily – enter into a relationship with the space and/or context.
Peter is represented by Ghent based Kristof De Clercq gallery and involved as a drawing/graphics professor at LUCA Ghent. He does lectures, performances and produces a multitude of series and editions under just as many heteronyms. Until 2016, together with artist Rik De Boe, he ran the exhibition space Voorkamer in the city of Lier.
